The US administration can confirm that a naval officer has been arrested on espionage charges, White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said in a briefing on Monday. On Sunday, US media reported that Lieutenant Commander Edward Lin was charged with spying for China and Taiwan. "I can’t speak to the substance of the allegations against the naval officer," Earnest stated. "I can just confirm for you that these charges have been filed, that there is an officer that is in custody."
