(Muslim Press) - Heavy flooding hit Qatar on Wednesday causing gridlock on the country’s roads as well as closures of schools and the US embassy. Overnight rain struck the country and made many roads nearly impassable for commuters. Reports on social media show that even Doha’s Hamad International Airport was effected, due to leaks at the $17 billion (16 billion euro) building, which opened last year. Despite the heaviest rain which fell around the airport, Hamad International said that flights were operating normally. According to the Qatar Meteorology Department. 66 mm of rain fell around the airport. The US embassy was forced to shut on Wednesday due to the bad weather conditions and the offices would not open again until next week. “Due to inclement weather, the US Embassy in #Qatar will be closed today,” US embasst said on Twitter.
