"The World Congress on Extremist and Takfiri Movements in the Islamic Scholars’ view" has started work with great numbers of Muslim scholars and thinkers attending, to discuss threats posed to the Muslim world by extremists, More than two thousands of Muslim scholars and thinkers from all over the world attended the conference which is taking place in the holy city of Qom and lasting for two days. Scholars from various sects, including Shiites and Sunnis, from 83 countries have gathered in Iran to take part in the international conference from November 23 to 24. In the opening speech of the conference, Grand Ayatollah Naser Makarem Shirazi who is a spiritual guide for many Shia Muslims and the chairman of the conference, said that we (Muslim scholars) must explain to younger generations that Takfiris’ extremism is way far from the true Islamic doctrines. He asserted that Daesh (ISIS) is not Islamic at all and that all Muslims should unite to fight against the terrorist group that is a danger to both Islam and humanity. “Military operations against this terror group is necessary but it’s not enough,” he added, “Muslim scholars must get to the root of the problem which is Daesh’s ideology and destroy it.” The gathering aims to explain the threats of Daesh (ISIS) and other Takfiri terror groups to humanity, and especially to Muslim world, and to find solutions for the dangers the terrorists create for people. The West's plots against Islam and Muslims by supporting Takfiri groups is also of great importance and will be discussed in the gathering.
