Six Egyptian police officers were killed and two others were injured early Tuesday when a roadside bomb exploded as a police vehicle drove near Rafah in the northern Sinai Peninsula, Egyptian military sources said. The vehicle was patrolling the highway in the Sedot neighborhood between Rafah and Sheikh Zuweid when it was hit, the sources said. They said the injured were taken to a military hospital in nearby el-Arish. The restive Sinai peninsula has been hit by a surge of violence since President Mohamed Morsi's ouster on July 3, 2013.
