Two separate shooting incidents in the US states of California and Texas have left at least 4 people dead and two others wounded.

In a shooting Saturday afternoon in Pasadena, California, a gunman shot three people to death and left two others injured before surrendering to police.

The gunman, identified as 35 - year - old John Izeal Smith, barricaded himself in a home while “shooting indiscriminately” at people passing by, Lt. Vasken Gourdikian of the Pasadena Police Department said.

After receiving multiple 911 calls, police arrived at the scene where the gunman also fired heavily upon officers. However, he was persuaded to surrender after a standoff with police.

In another shooting incident in San Antonia, Texas, a man was fatally shot at a hotel after a confrontation with a guest.

The fatal shootings come a few days after a man in Texas killed four children and two adults execution style. Court testimony showed the Texas man tied up the victims and shot them in the head.

Every year, thousands of Americans lose their lives to the escalating gun violence in the country.

An interactive project between slate. com and the anonymous creator of the Twitter feed @ GunDeaths showed more than 12,000 gun deaths were reported by the US media between the December 14,2012 shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, which left 20 first - grade school children and six adults dead, and December 31,2013.

Many critics blame the notoriously liberal gun control laws in the US for the country’s high rate of gun violence.

Richard Martinez, the father of one of the victims of a recent killing spree in the beach community of Isla Vista near the University of California at Santa Barbara on May 23, said that “a rudderless bunch of idiots in government” are responsible for the tragic incident.

“My kid died because nobody responded to what happened at Sandy Hook, ” he said.
