Israeli soldiers have shot dead three Palestinians and injured at least forty others at the Qalandia refugee camp in the occupied West Bank.
Palestinian medical sources reported on Monday that 32-year-old Robin al-Abed and Younis Jihad Abu al-Sheikh Jahjouh, 22, were killed by live rounds fired by the Israeli troops overnight on Sunday. Jihad Aslan, 20, another Palestinian youth died Monday morning of his injuries after being pronounced brain dead at a hospital in the city of Ramallah. The shooting occurred after dozens of Israeli troops attacked the refugee camp, north of East al-Quds (Jerusalem), to arrest a former Palestinian political prisoner. The Palestinian youths threw stones at the troops, who responded with live fire. Head of the Urgent Care Unit at the Red Crescent Society in Ramallah Mohammad Samhan said the society received dozens of calls regarding a large number of injuries in Qalandia, and that its ambulances rushed to the camp and transferred the injured to the Palestine Medical Center. Local sources said that the recently released Palestinian prisoner Yousef al-Khatib, who had spent ten years in an Israeli jail, was kidnapped by the Israeli army. On August 20, Palestinian Majd al-Shaleh was killed by Israeli forces after they stormed the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. The Israeli military often raids Palestinian houses in the West Bank to arrest activists and civilians, mostly without any charges. According to Palestinian rights groups, over a dozen Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the first half of 2013. Israeli troops also kidnapped nearly 1,800 Palestinians, including women and children, during the same period.
