Syrian troops have intercepted and defused several bombs weighing one and half a ton during their clashes with foreign backed militants near suburb of northwestern city of Idlib.

According to Al - Alam reporter, the heavy bombs were emplaced in several places alongside the road through which the Syrian army troops were supposed to enter the region.

The attempted bombings came following a massive mop - up operation by the security forces in Jisr al - Shughour suburb of Idlib.

There are also reports of heavy clashes between the Syrian army and foreign - backed militants in Jebel ali - Zavieh, another suburb of Idlib. Al - Alam says dozens of foreign militants were killed in the confrontations.

The militant groups were reportedly positioned alongside the roads after loading such huge quantity of bombs within suburbs of the town.

According to reports, Idlib suburbs were also heavily mined by at least 1500 pieces of mines weighing 100 to 150 kg each.

Clashes continue between Syrian troops and foreign - backed militants on the outskirts of the northern city of Aleppo following significant gains by the army against the armed groups.

Eelier on Wednesday, Syrian soldiers reportedly killed 62 militants linked to the al - Qaeda - affiliated al - Nusra Front in an ambush near the town of Adra, east of the capital Damascus.

They also seized the militants’ machineguns and rocket - propelled grenades.
