A political analyst says the main objective behind marking the International Quds Days is to keep the world focused on the plight of the Palestinians.Mohammad Marandi, a professor at the University of Tehran, said on Friday, “The objective is to keep the focus on Palestine so that the Israelis and the United States and their European allies are unable to make people forget the plight of the people of Palestine. ” Besides the Palestinian cause, marking the Quds Day provides an opportunity for people across the globe to stand up against the unjust policies practiced by the United States and its Western allies, Marandi said.
Marandi added, “I think the Palestinian issue is the focus but it ' s an opportunity for people to protest against the major injustices of the Western and American empire and how that is causing such grave hardship for people across the globe at a time when Western countries consider themselves to be superior, to be more civilized than others, to be more humane than others…”The analyst further dismissed the idea that the Quds Day is a propaganda campaign against the Zionist regime of Israel, describing the event as a “general protest against Western hegemony and injustice.” On Friday, millions of Iranians from all walks of life took to the streets nationwide to voice their solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian nation and express their anger at the policies of the Tel Aviv regime and its allies. In August 1979, the late founder of the Islamic Republic Ayatollah Khomeini declared the last Friday of the Muslim holy fasting month of Ramadan as International Quds Day, calling on Muslims across the world to mark the annual occasion by holding street rallies. Millions of people around the world take to the streets on this day in a show of support for the people of Palestine, demanding an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestinian lands.
