The annual international al - Quds protest has reverberated as far as Washington DC, where Americans gathered to show their unity with the Palestinian people.
Quds Day takes place every year on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. Demonstrators here are also speaking out against the American government's role in the Palestinian crisis, stating the Obama administration is complicit in Israel's aggressive policies against the Palestinian people. Israel is the largest recipient of U.S. foreign aid, scheduled to receive $30 billion in military aid from 2009 to 2018. Speakers included religious leaders, rights activists and local artists. Many likened the Palestinian condition to that of African Americans and other minorities in the United States, particularly before the Civil Rights Movement. Similar protests also took place in several cities across the country.
