A car bomb explosion has killed at least 10 people and wounded around 62 in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

State news agency SANA said that the bomb went off in the al - Siyouf Square in Jaramana suburb of the capital on Thursday.

Syria officials blamed al - Qaeda - linked terrorist State of Iraq and Sham group for the attack.

The terrorist group has been fighting alongside the foreign - backed Syrian militants in the two - year - old conflict against the Syrian government.

Bomb blasts have previously hit Jaramana.

The bomb blast comes as Syrian army forces made considerable achievements in pushing back anti - government terrorists in recent weeks.

The foreign - backed terrorist groups use mortars and car bombs to hit areas which are under the control of the government.

The United Nations says nearly 100,000 people have been killed in the unrest that hit the country in March 2011.
