Ali Haider Gilani, the son of the former Pakistani Prime Minister, was kidnapped Thursday by unidentified gunmen who shot dead his personal secretary and bodyguard.

Haider was at a campaign meeting at Mutan City when gunmen opened fire at his supporters, workers from the Pakistan People's Party. Five others were injured in the attack, RT reported. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, but the banned Tahrik-e-Taliban Pakistan warned that it will target secular parties like the Pakistan People's Party and the Awami National Party ahead of the general election on May 11. The threat has forced parties to virtually abandon outdoor campaigning.
