Iranian football powerhouse Sepahan has conceded a 4-2 home defeat against the Saudi Arabian club Al - Ahli in the group stage of the 2013 AFC Champions League.
Sepahan players started the match -- played at Fouladshahr stadium in Isfahan on Tuesday -- brightly. They could quickly establish themselves, and it was Javahir Sokay who opened the scoring for the Isfahan-based club three minutes into the match. The guests played with more vigor and valor, going forward just after the goal, and went close to score the equalizer. Al-Ahli’s Brazilian footballer of Victor Simoes de Oliveira blasted the ball goalwards in the 23th minute, and leveled the game. Al-Ahli footballers continued to exert their spell of pressure on Sepahan, and it was Bruno Cesar Zanaki, who doubled the lead in the 39th minute for the Saudi team. Seven minutes later, Amad Ali Suleiman al-Hosni sailed the ball into the back of Sepahan’s net and scored the third goal for Al-Ahli. In the second half, 32-year-old Victor Simoes de Oliveira had another great opportunity in the 65th minute and put the ball at the back of Sepahan’s net for the second time to score Al-Ahli’s fourth goal. Sepahan’s Farshid Talebi scored a consolation goal in the dying minutes of the match to reduce the gap for the hosts. In another match of the day, another Saudi team, Al-Shabab, stretched its record to a three out of three with a 1-0 win over Iran's Teraktorsazi Tabriz at a game played in the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh.
