The head of the Union of Resistance Scholars on Wednesday called the Balfour Declaration a conspiracy against the Muslim world, saying all plots against Muslims are doomed to failure.

The Balfour Declaration was a public statement issued by the British government during World War I voicing support for creation of the state of Israel.

“All (anti-Muslim) plots, whether hatched by Riyadh, Tel Aviv or Paris, will fail, just as those in Lebanon, Syria and Iraq failed,” said Sheikh Maher Hamoud while addressing the second edition of the international conference of resistance scholars that kicked off in Beirut on Wednesday.

The cleric pointed to Israeli regime’s defeat in its wars against Gaza and Lebanon, saying the victories were not the result of the number of military forces or equipment but were clinched because of “determination and commitment”.

He also underlined the importance of the Palestinian issue for the Muslim world, saying “Palestine will remain our first Qibla (direction of prayer) and they are not able to deviate us from our route.”

The international conference of resistance scholars is attended by more than 200 scholars from over 80 countries across the world.

The theme of the conference is, “True Promise: Palestine between Balfour Declaration and Divine Promise.”
