A Hindu Yuva Vahini leader claimed that it is the Muslim community's plot to increase their population to make India an Islamic nation by 2027,
“If the Muslim population continued to grow at the same pace, India will become an Islamic country by 2027. It's a conspiracy of the Muslim community. They want to have total control over India,” Nagendra Pratap Tomar, the western Uttar Pradesh head of the outfit, said at workers' conference.
“Muslims bear children not because they want to have them, but because they want to occupy the whole country,” he added.
The right-wing organization was founded by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath back in 2002. Adityanath is also the chief patron of the organization.
The Islamophobic remarks came amid a brutal conflict in neighboring Myanmar, which saw hundreds of thousands of Muslims fleeing to neighboring Bangladesh.
Months ago, the Amnesty International called on Indian authorities to ensure that there is no impunity for those responsible for public lynchings and other hate crimes against Muslims in several states.
“Since April 2017, at least ten Muslim men have been lynched or killed in public in suspected hate crimes, amid a rising tide of Islamophobia in the country,” it said in a statement.
Amnesty added that the attacks have contributed to a growing sense of insecurity for many Muslims, and intensified religious tensions.
