According to a militant captured by Kurdish troops in Syria, a secretive ISIS division has been teaching UK militants to launch a wave of attacks on British soil.
The militant revealed how the unit trained those involved in the recent attacks in Paris and Brussels.
He also described how the new recruits were initiated into the al-Kharsha brigade in Syria.
“It takes seven months to be trained in al-Kharsa brigade,” the militant said.
“It is very hard. Every European who crosses the border to Syria, they are offered [the opportunity] to join. If 20 start the training, only five finish it. Then after that they go back to Europe and attack.”
The ISIS militant noted that some 50 members of the terrorist group went through the program from countries including the UK, Belgium, France and Germany.
Gilles de Kerchove, the EU Counterterrorism Coordinator, said one-third of 5,000 European jihadis trained in Syria and Iraq have returned to Europe to carry out terrorist attacks.
He noted that some 2,000-2,500 European militants are still in Syria and Iraq.
“There are largely two categories of returnees: those in the majority who will drift back and those who will be sent back on specific missions, which are of most concern.”
