Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif has denounced Israel as the “main threat” to the Muslim world, warning that the regime aims at “Judaizing” the occupied Palestinian lands.
“The main threat to the Islamic world is the Zionist regime, which is fueling other threats to the region such as terrorism and extremism,” Zarif said on Tuesday upon his arrival in the Turkish city of Istanbul.
The Iranian official called on Muslim nations to be vigilant and prevent Tel Aviv from distracting the Muslim world’s attention from itself, which is the main threat facing the region.
“Israel continues its policy of occupation through efforts to change the identity and the status of the occupied territories and Judaize these areas,” Zarif noted.
New tensions between Palestinians and the Israeli regime erupted in East Jerusalem al-Quds following a deadly shooting incident on July 14 outside the Haram al-Sharif, which Jews refer to as the Temple Mount.
After the incident, Israel set up metal detectors and surveillance cameras an entrances to the al-Aqsa compound.
The move sparked strong criticism worldwide and Israel had to back down after violent clashes with Palestinian protesters. The regime removed all the security restrictions at the al-Aqsa compound.
During the al-Aqsa clashes, 15 Palestinians were killed and some 1,400 others were injured.
