Iranian Ambassador to Islamabad Mehdi Honardoust has said that Iran is seeking to establish Islamic coalition for peace.
Honardoust noted that the Islamic Republic strongly believes that all important Muslim countries should join hands to fight against terrorism and to restore peace to the region.
“The coalition of peace has more priority and importance than any other problem for Iran,” he said.
He also emphasized the need to form a coalition of peace to resolve regional issues.
“Iran firmly believes that all the tensions which the Islamic world is facing can be resolved mutually,” the Iranian ambassador said.
It came days after the Russian foreign minister dismissed accusations against Iran, saying the Islamic Republic is a “powerful player” in the fight against terrorist groups in Syria.
“What we do now with Iran and those that cooperate with us and the Syrian army is fighting terrorists in Syria. Iran is a powerful player on the ground, legitimately invited by the government,” said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday.
Lavrov said there is not even a single fact to substantiate Washington’s claim that Tehran is supporting terrorism.
He was referring to remarks made by U.S. President Donald Trump and others who have branded Iran as the world’s “biggest sponsor of terror.”
