The Russian Reconciliation Center for Syrian announced on Friday that the liberation of the eastern neighborhoods of Aleppo city has been completed.
The Russian center added that the government forces are now fighting separate pockets of militant’s resistance.
“The operation by the Syrian Army aimed at liberating the militant-controlled neighborhoods of Eastern Aleppo has been completed,” the center said.
It went on to say that “The Syrian government forces continue to hit and destroy isolated pockets of militant resistance.”
The Russian Defense ministry has said that only 2 percent of Aleppo is still controlled by the militants.
According to reports, the terrorist groups violated the ceasefire and targeted al-Ramouseh corridor through which militants and their families were fleeing from the city.
“Just before shelling of al-Ramouseh corridor by terrorist groups over 150 vehicles left militant-held neighborhoods in Aleppo city to the Southwestern countryside of the city via al-Ramouseh corridor,” Fars news agency reported.
Meanwhile, many militants left Aleppo’s Eastern areas with their families.
Reports said that 3,475 men, 3,137 women, 2,359 children and 105 injured left Aleppo.
Terrorist groups have handed kidnapped and missing people over to the Syrian army in war-torn neighborhoods.
Also, Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Bashar al-Jaafari said on Tuesday that reports of crimes committed by the Syrian government in Aleppo aim at diverting attention from the achievements of the Syrian army.
