Donald Trump, the US Republican presidential candidate, said on Tuesday that Hillary Clinton’s plan for Syria would lead to “World War Three”.
In an interview on foreign policy, Trump said defeating ISIS is a higher priority that forcing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down.
Trump said such policies would lead to conflict with military forces of the nuclear-armed Russia.
The Republican nominee said Clinton could drag the US into a world war with her aggressive posture toward resolving the conflict.
Hillary Clinton has called for a no-fly zone to protect non-combatants, a move that analysts say could bring the US into direct conflict with Russian fighter jets.
“What we should do is focus on ISIS [Daesh]. We should not be focusing on Syria,” Trump said at his golf resort.
“You’re going to end up in World War Three over Syria if we listen to Hillary Clinton,” he added.
Trump also blamed US President Barack Obama for a downturn in US relations with the Philippines under its new president, Rodrigo Duterte, saying, “The president wants to focus on his golf game rather than engage with world leaders.”
He called on the Republican Party leaders to support him, claiming that “we will win 100 percent if we had support from the top.”
I think we’re going to win it anyway, he added.
