Head of Hezbollah considers Wahhabism to be even more pernicious than the Israeli regime, Lebanon’s Al Akhbar newspaper reported on Tuesday.
He made the comments during an annual meeting with Muslim eulogists and the people responsible for the commemoration ceremonies during the Lunar month of Muharram.
Seyyed Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah, said he considered Wahhabism to be responsible for damaging Islam’s reputation in the world.
“Wahhabism is more evil than Israel, especially since it seeks to destroy others and eliminate whatever thing that has to do with Islam and its history,” he said.
The Hezbollah chief went on to say, “This project was launched in 2011, and it not a Shia and Sunni matter. The role played by spy services is completely evident here. We should use this opportunity to pin Wahhabism down and deal a blow to it.”
Many Muslim scholars know Wahhabism as an extremist and incorrect interpretation of Islam which leads to terrorist groups such as ISIS, al-Nusra, and al-Qaeda. The ideology was emerged in Saudi Arabia and as of today, the Saudi regime is the only supporter of Wahabbism throughout the world.
Nasrallah also said what is even worse than Wahhabism and Zionism is “British Shiism,” which as he said was being promoted by fake religious figures, whom he called “mercenaries of intelligence services”.
He further said that Saudi Arabia with the help of the US and Britain had escalated tensions in the region to portray the conflicts as sectarian.
