Iranian security forces have managed to dismantle a terrorist cell in the southeastern border city of Khash in the province of Sistan and Baluchestan, an informed source said on Wednesday.

The members of the group were seeking to carry out acts of terror and sabotage against police and security centers and wanted to blow up different places but they were identified and arrested, Khash Governor Mohammad Akbar Chakerzehi told IRNA on Wednesday.

The saboteurs had dug a 30-meter-long underground passageway at a depth of 20 meters inside a house near the target places, the official said.

Following security measures taken by intelligence forces of Iran, Brigadier General Hussein Rahimi said members of the group were arrested through the "full information supremacy" of the security forces. He added that further details on the group's targets will be revealed in the near future.

The Iranian security forces arrested a member of Ansar al-Forqan terrorist group in the same region last month.

Iranian officials said, on July 12, that at least five people who had planned terror attacks across the country were arrested.
