In an interview with Muslimpress.com, Dr. David Ray Griffin said on September 11 “the U.S. was not attacked by Muslims; it attacked itself.”

“Insofar as Muslim countries are hostile to the United States, this is not because of our democracy, but because we violate our democratic ideals by attacking Muslim countries,” he added.

Here’s the full transcript of the interview:

Muslim Press: What has the U.S. government gained from the 9/11 attacks?

David Ray Griffin: The question is less what it gained than what it tried to attain (as most of the plans did not work out). The overall hope was to bring about a global empire, in which all countries would obey the policies of the USA. This desire arose when the Soviet Union collapsed. The idea was that the bipolar world would be replaced by a unipolar world, controlled by America. Practically, this would mean that the US would have control of the world's fossil fuels and other minerals.

But there were also more particular goals. For example: (a) The US wanted to help Unocal develop pipelines to transport oil and natural gas through Afghanistan and Pakistan to the Indian Ocean. (b) The US wanted to be in control of Iraq's oil and gas, and also wanted to destroy Saddam's regime in order to aid Israel (many of the neocons, who planned the 9/11 attacks, are closely aligned with Israel). (c) The Bush-Cheney administration wanted to increase the Pentagon's budget bigly (as Trump would say) - this being one of the goals that succeeded. (d) They also meant to aid Israel by bringing about regime change in Syria, although the main purpose for trying to remove Assad had to do with supporting a gas pipeline that the US and its allies wanted, rather than the pipeline route that Assad and Russia wanted.

MP: According to the official story about 9/11, the U.S. was attacked because of its democracy. What’s your take on this?

David Ray Griffin: That claim is absurd. First of all, the U.S. was not attacked by Muslims; it attacked itself (it was a false-flag operation). Second, insofar as Muslim countries are hostile to the United States, this is not because of our democracy, but because we violate our democratic ideals by attacking Muslim countries.

MP: Is there enough evidence to prove that 9/11 was an inside job?

David Ray Griffin: Yes, the evidence is abundant. It is so clear that anyone who will actually examine the evidence, with an at least 30% open mind, will be overwhelmingly convinced. The strongest evidence is that the official account of the destruction of the Twin Towers, the destruction of WTC 7, and the attack on the Pentagon depends on a dozen major miracles. Miracles are things that are physically impossible unless an omnipotent being intervenes, and nobody thinks that Allah helped these miracles to occur. The final part of my book "Bush and Cheney" explains how miracles were involved in the official account.

MP: What happens to people who raise questions about the official story of 9/11 attacks? Are they silenced systematically?

David Ray Griffin: No, those in charge of the official story - the White House, the CIA, the Pentagon, and the mainstream press - rely on ridicule and the threat of loss of reputation or jobs. They charge anyone questioning the official story with being "conspiracy theorists" - meaning people who make absurd claims about the US government. The CIA started using this charge in order to tamp down the criticism of the Warren Commission's report on the murder of JFK (which the CIA - along with others - had engineered). This charge has remained effective, so that the fact that the 9/11 Truth Movement questions the official account shows it to be an absurd, unscientific movement.

It appears that a few people have been killed, because they had some inside information (just as those who were killed in relation to the JFK assassination had inside information). Nobody bothers people who, like me, write books based on research (not inside information).

MP: You have argued that it is a mistake when some members of the 9/11 Truth Movement deny global warming. Could you elaborate your view on this?

David Ray Griffin: Many members of the 9/11 Truth Movement generalize from the 9/11 hoax to claim that global warming is likewise a hoax. But this claim is misplaced. On both issues, we should trust the scientific evidence. The scientific evidence that fossil fuels are causing global warming, and if not stopped will bring civilization to an end, is as strong as the scientific evidence showing the official account of 9/11 to be a lie.
